North Cotswold Chamber Choir

The North Cotswold Chamber Choir is one of the finest choral groups in Oxfordshire. Formed in 1992, our repertoire embraces a huge range of styles encompassing music of the last thousand years, from Gregorian plainchant , via sacred Tudor anthems and masterpieces of the Baroque period, to secular, contemporary and popular works.

Peter Hunt

Peter is one of the UK’s most experienced choral trainers and conductors, having worked with a wide variety of singers and choral groups for over thirty years. In 2015 he retired as Deputy Head of Berkshire Maestros, an independent music service where he specialized in leading singing projects in schools, and conducting the County Choirs. He gained his B.A. in Music from Dartington College of Arts and his teaching qualifications from the University of London, and had a long career in secondary education, which included being Head of Performing Arts at Chipping Norton School, before focusing on choral education. Peter is the inspiration behind the Voiceworks series of handbooks for singing, published by Oxford University Press, which has helped to transform singing for children and adults and choir leaders in many settings. He is the author or co-author of six of its titles, is still the series editor and is developing its reach to USA markets. He has also collaborated with Bob Chilcott on a song series.

After retiring from full time work Peter started teaching and coaching adults and in 2016 started the Banbury Singing for Wellbeing group to help older adults improve their health and wellbeing through singing. The group is supported by the Oxfordshire charity Sound Resource of which he is a trustee. His passion for singing and vast experience of training has led to the establishment of a Sing for Parkinson’s group in Banbury and interest in Singing for lung health. His mission is to see singing on prescription as an aid to improved health and wellbeing and happiness.
